Magoo Update
Magoo had surgery recently to try to close his liver shunt. He also has tested negative for the parasite. He is recuperating from this major surgery and will need to stay on lactulose medicine indefinitely and most likely be on the high cost low protein LD diet. Although the surgery was considered successful, we really wonâ??t know how his liver is functioning until he gets re-checked on his blood work after 3 and 6 months.

We truly appreciate all who have graciously donated on his behalf. However, our costs for the surgery and various vet visits, medicine and food are still substantial and continuing.

Help Save Magoo!
Greyhound Ranch Adoptions, Inc. rescued a seven-month old greyhound puppy into our program from a greyhound breeding farm in Florida. His whole body was loaded with ticks and fleas, and his gums were very white in color. He could barely pick up his head. We brought him to our vet for a series of tests and were told that he suffers from all of the following problems which caused his lethargy, lackof growth and weight loss:

1) Intraheptic portosystemic liver shunt (central or left undetermined before surgery)

2) Cryptosporidium protozoa parasite

3) Tested positive for rocky mountain fever tick-borne disease

4) Tested positive for babesia tick borne disease

5) Anemia

In order to save this little boy, we are trying to get him to gain weight and treat him for the parasites so he can have enough strength to undergo the surgery in a month. He has gained two pounds so far but still only weighs 29 pounds. Without this surgery to repair his liver shunt, he will not live past the age of one. The cost of required special diet, medications and vet care are significant and more than our available resources. The surgery will cost between $3,000-$4,000. We have spent well over $2,000 so far on various vet visits, including the specialists at the University of Tennessee Small Animal Hospital.

Any donations will be greytfully appreciated to help this sweet little puppy have a chance at a longer life.
